We will end this series tonight with Jesus’ teaching on religion. The day of modernism has passed. We are once again in a spiritual age. In America, religion is a major topic. More so than ever, we live within a plurality of religions and it is fair to say that religion is a cornerstone of our society.
It was a cornerstone of Jesus’ society as well. The two major religions of the day were Judaism, and Roman paganism. Jesus strikes up a conversation with some of the Jewish elites, the religious leaders of his day - the ones who had more respect than anyone else - and he strikes at the very core of their religious vision.
