Throughout Jesus’ life and ministry he points to the various cultural foundations of our society and he says “well, I think this is going to have to be restructured if you are to step into my kingdom."

Today, we are going to see how Jesus confronts one of our culture’s most foundational virtues, something we hold higher than nearly anything else: greatness. 

Now, interestingly enough, this word on greatness comes not when Jesus deals with his enemies, like we saw last week, but with his friends. After about two years of doing life and ministry with Jesus the disciples are walking on the road and they stumble into a fascinating conversation.

We are going to work through this passage with three points: 

  1. The World’s Understanding of Greatness. 
  2. Jesus’ Understanding of Greatness.
  3. Jesus’ Example of Greatness.
